Basil is the quintessential taste of summer. Its pungent, slightly sweet smell could be compared to anise, and is often used in many Italian and Asian cuisines. It is also good clipped up fresh on just about anything.

Storage tips:

To store basil fresh, it should always be kept in a glass of water, and kept on your counter, not your refrigerator. If you loosely place a plastic bag over it, it will keep even longer!

Its best fresh, but basil can be dried and frozen. To dry, make bunches and hang in well ventilated area. When leaves are brittle to the touch, store in airtight containers. To freeze, grind basil up in a food processor and then freeze in small amounts (some like to use ice cube trays).
